A website cost can vary from a very low cost WordPress.com Blogs to a very expensive custom designed, build and developed websites. It is like asking the price of anything from cars to houses and being that high-level in your requirements: it really just depends on what you want.
When a designer or developer wants to know what you want from your website we are primarily concerned with the functionality of the website. The more complicated or bespoke your requirements (and therefore the longer it will take to build); the more the website will cost.
Some website costs can be estimated based upon the requirements of the customer and the experience of the developer. For example, if you require a fairly basic website, with just a few pages outlining your business model, perhaps a portfolio and contact details, then it would be easy to offer an accurate quote.
If your requirements are vague, however: you don’t have your own content (text and images), you don’t know what pages your website should contain and you’re not certain about what you want your website to do (functionality) – then trying to work out a website cost becomes more challenging.
A caveat is included in my terms and conditions which are signed by any new customer on acceptance of their quote. This caveat talks about scope creep. Scope creep is defined as any functionality not clearly defined in the specifications received for the project after initial sign-off and that will have affect on the final delivery of the project. This happens because often while the website is being built, the owner think of new requirements and more functionality that he wants added. This can be done – subject to the technicality of the requirements and the availability of the designer – however you must be aware that this will have to be quoted for separately.
Having said that the following guidelines will help you choose the package that is right for you and remember; when you request a quote based on your individualised requirements, you will receive an individualised quote to match.
